Facts about water resources
in the United States:
- Water quality is getting worse
- 46% of streams, 21% of lakes, 18% of coastal waters, and 32% of wetlands are contaminated
- Economic losses exceed $1 Billion/year
- Restoration benefits greatly exceed costs:
- Water resource projects have a 4x return on investment on average
- Many cost-effective, nature-based solutions have been scientifically validated
"The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it." - Robert Swan
Areas of Expertise
About Clean Water Help
Our Vision:
A world where water is clean, safe, accessible, and affordable for EVERYONE.
Our Mission:
To connect communities in need of clean water with water resource experts and cost-effective solutions.
What makes us different?
We are water quality scientists and engineers that focus on restoring and protecting natural water resources: lakes, ponds, rivers, and wetlands.
-
Many impoverished communities rely on local ponds, lakes, and rivers for drinking water, protein (fish), and local agriculture.
-
In these impoverished communities, we work to:
-
Determine the best approach to optimize water quality.
-
Determine the best approach to prevent future contamination.
-
Help install simple water treatment systems (when necessary).
-
Teach the locals the principles of water resource management:
-
Drinking water collection, storage and disinfection.
-
Water quality contamination prevention.
-
Optimizing fishery habitat and yield.
-
-
We recognize that universal water quality requires a comprehensive approach. We connect with partners that are experts in other fields so that can can focus on doing what we do best (water quality management). These fields include:
-
Policy and advocacy
-
Sanitation and hygiene
-
Access to water - such as drilling wells or water distribution infrastructure.
-
Water finance and affordable loans
Our Guiding Principles:
-
Prioritize projects that directly benefit human health and well-being.
-
Use a systems thinking approach to understand the root of the problem and the most cost-effective, sustainable solutions.
-
Combine nature-based solutions with the best available technology.
-
Forge collaborations between local communities, universities, governments, other non-profits, and solution providers.
-
Minimize administrative costs.
-
We are a volunteer organization - every dollar goes to helping people!
